I’ve long held that you should never apologize for anything, if only because it’s a bad move strategically. You may have done something wrong, but you’re not going to make it any better by apologizing.
It might make the other person feel better, but that’s not what this is about.
They probably feel fine anyway, or else why would they be demanding an apology? In doing something to them for which they can demand an apology, you’ve given them the opportunity to be publicly correct about something. In a sense, you’ve done them a favor, and therefore you’re already even.
Certainly, there’s question as to whether to issue an apology in cases where no one is demanding one or forcing you to, as was the case with DJ Vlad.
DJ Vlad can hardly get fired from VladTV. His name is in the site’s title! And he might be the only person who works there. The group of hoodrats who wrote descriptions of his YouTube videos have long since been replaced by Microsoft Copilot.
This wasn’t brought up during the recent controversy, because anyone who, at this point, could command $25—ultimately provided by the Open Society Foundation—to call for Vlad’s head because he tried to get a black woman fired from Princeton for suggesting he shouldn’t comment on the Drake-Kendrick beef doesn’t watch VladTV.
I stopped watching it myself years ago, when he falsely accused the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan of suggesting that black people should throw rocks at Jewish people. Not because he’d been right about everything he’d said up until that point and I was so disappointed in him, but because Lord Jamar stopped going on there, so I didn’t have a reason to watch anymore.
I find it amusing when Lil Boosie takes up the noble fight against transgender people using the incorrect locker rooms at Planet Fitness, which I’m actually fine with (no Diddy), but he only does that on occasion, and I can catch an excerpt of it on X f/k/a Twitter if necessary.
It’s been a while since they’ve had that discussion, and it’s possible that Vlad has stopped bringing it up, if it violates YouTube’s terms of service. Vlad pays Boosie money out the ass to submit to interviews, and the versions they air are probably heavily bowdlerized, if not scripted.
VladTV interviews have been known to send people to prison, including the guy who supposedly assassinated 2Pac. The last thing Vlad needs is for Lil Boosie to get locked up again. He’s already lost Lord Jamar, along with whoever else stopped going on there after the Farrakhan thing.
And ultimately, that’s what this apology was about. I can’t imagine that he lost a single subscriber, and he may have even gained a few from the free publicity. But he can’t run the risk of people refusing to submit to an interview. He’s been trending all week long, at a time when Trump is on trial for going raw dog in a pr0n chick who’s been forced to state her body count under oath. (She probably still lied.)
People might steer clear if only to avoid the appearance of impropriety, not because they give a rat’s about Morgan Jerkins getting let go from Princeton. She has Sade as her banner image on X, possibly in an attempt to catfish (she’s comparatively hefty and appears to be using cake soap on her face), and she’s taking part in the Drake-Kendrick beef. There’s basically no way she’s engaged in real scholarship.
There was no point in Vlad trying to get her fired, which he may very well have, despite a claim to the contrary in his apology. If they let go of a black chick on orders from DJ Vlad, they never would have lived it down. It might not have cost them any black applicants, whom they can’t admit now anyway, thanks to Ralph Nader, but it would have been a PR debacle nonetheless. Fundraising would have suffered.
Already, people are questioning universities’ vast real estate holdings, oftentimes in black neighborhoods, on which they’re not required to pay property tax, and their even more vast, undisclosed investments in companies based or doing business in a white ethnostate. Now is not the time to question whether their black female faculty even show up to work, let alone what they do.
In fact, that might be the real reason Vlad apologized. He may have received a phone call from a bunker six miles below the earth’s surface explaining what’s at stake here. Hence apologizing for the offense against Jerkins, which may have actually made him money, and not the offense against Farrakhan, which may have cost him.
